Intensive Outdoor Instructor Training Program
Over the winter we will be running our intensive instructor training program. This is a 14 week course which will boost your skills as an outdoor instructor. It is based in the heart of Scotland near the village of Kenmore, right by the mountains and on the shores of Loch Tay.
Overview:
This course is run on a very small ratio of a maximum of 1:4, however it is normally 1:2. So we can really work with you personally to achieve what you need. Most people doing this course are relatively new to the outdoor industry or possibly even total beginners in the industry and are looking to gain the skills and pre -requisites necessary to get on the NGB ladder. However, we also get people on this course who are that bit more experienced who may have done a season or two before and already be on that NGB ladder and have already got their level 1 or ML training and are now looking to gain their level 2 or ML assessment. Due to our low ratio we can cater for both types of people and will help you achieve the qualifications you personally need to progress in your outdoor career.
What qualifications can I get from this course?
During the course you will have the opportunity to gain your:
BCU 1 star in kayaking & canoeing
BCU 2 star in kayaking & canoeing
Foundation Safety and Rescue
UKCC Level One coach in Kayaking and Canoeing
2 day First Aid Certificate
CWA(Climbing Wall Award) Training
ML (Mountain Leader) Training
For those who already have their ML training we can instead work on your assessment
For those who already have their UKCC Level 1 we can work on your Level 2 training
What skills will I gain:
Loads! We will make sure you have enough QMD's (quality mountain days) to undergo your ML training, we will develop both your kayaking and canoeing skills to make sure you can get through your level 1. We will take you climbing to make sure you have the pre-requisites for your CWA Training.
On top of this we want to make sure we give you as broad a knowledge and the 'tools' to work in the outdoor industry so we will also cover sessions on:
Team Building
Reviewing Techniques
Games and Fillers
Gorge Walking
Coasteering
Orienteering
and presentation skills and kit advice
What isn't included:
We don't include food or accommodation (however we can arrange hostel accommodation for you at a cost of £1800 for the 14 weeks).
Governing Body Memberships (which are essential to take your NGB's) are not included in the price.
You will need your own basic kit such as waterproofs and boots but we will provide you with a full kit list.
Dates:
8th October 2012 - 1st February 2013 (with a 3 week break over Xmas and new year)
Cost:
This cost of this course is £3000. If you need accommodation it will be an additional £1800. To secure your place on the course we will require a £200 deposit. We will then discuss with you how you would like to pay the rest. We will happily set up a monthly payment plan (interest free) to help you spread the cost. Most people on this course use a career development loan to help then pay.
Applying for this course:
If you would like to apply for this course then please contact us to discuss it either by email or by phone. We like to make sure you are aware of what the course involves and you will be suitable on it before we will let you book. It also gives you the chance to get all your questions answered before paying any deposit. If we feel you would benefit from the course and you would like to go ahead and book, we work on a first come first serve basis.
